I’ve been in Barcelona this week at Gartner’s IT Symposium and many of the discussions that I’ve had with senior IT and business leaders indicate organizations are thinking beyond cost and risk reduction to how they can use IT to accelerate growth and success for their businesses. As expected the majority of the sessions this week had some sort of cloud flavor – many of which echo the radical shift we’re also seeing in cloud-related investment strategies. Hybrid cloud promises the agility, economics and performance customers need to achieve the best outcomes for their business. Today, isolated, incompatible data silos prevent them from realizing the full potential of the hybrid cloud.
On one hand, organizations need to maintain control over their data, but on the other they still need to retain enough flexibility to enable innovation. By embracing NetApp’s vision for a Data Fabric this issue is solved in that you can manage your data seamlessly as it flows to wherever you need it most-and always make the best possible decisions for you and your organization. With Data Fabric, you’re in control, no matter where your data resides. You’re able to respond to changing business demands and innovate faster. With Data Fabric, incompatible silos, lock-in, and limitations are a thing of the past.

Helping cloud service providers deliver value
Since I’ve been in Barcelona for most of the week it would seem like an appropriate opportunity to highlight a recent success at Spanish cloud service provider Acens.com (part of the Telefonica group). As shown in the clip above, Acens is using some of the NetApp solutions that underpin the Data Fabric to help deliver a range of high quality services to its customers.
NetApp solutions used at Acens include FAS and E-Series systems. Our FAS systems provide consistent application performance across a broad range of SAN and NAS workloads. With simplified management, non-disruptive operations and proven cloud-provider integration, FAS is a perfect fit for both cloud service providers and hybrid cloud environments. With blisteringly fast performance at unparalleled price point, Acens is using E-Series for D2D backup and it provides the perfect complement to address the needs of the SAN storage side of the shop. And, coming back to point about Data Fabric being able to manage data across dispersed multi-cloud and multi-vendor environments, with our Flex Array virtualization software this all becomes possible.
Choice, Responsiveness and Control
In summary then, a Data Fabric provides you with choice and the freedom to move your data among the hybrid cloud resources that work best for your business. By providing you with the means to manage data and control performance no matter where your data resides, the Data Fabric puts you in control to meet changing business demands quickly and innovate new opportunities.
