This blog is part of a series on what’s new with clustered Data ONTAP 8.3. The last blog in the series looked at performance improvements and this blog highlights migration tools.

The 7-Mode Transition tool (7MTT) 2.0 was significantly enhanced and now supports migrating 7-Mode SAN and MetroCluster configurations to clustered Data ONTAP.  The 7MTT provides the following benefits:

  • Simplified migration from 7-Mode to clustered Data ONTAP for unified deployments with an easy-to-use, no charge web-based interface (GUI)
  • Reduced complexity through automated migration for both SAN and NAS data and configuration
  • Comprehensive set of prechecks for a smooth migration
  • Preserved configuration, storage efficiency, and NetApp Snapshot copies

Foreign LUN import (FLI) simplifies third-party (EMC, HDS, HP) SAN data migration to consolidate workloads onto clustered Data ONTAP.  The benefit of FLI is reduced cost and complexity by consolidating SAN workloads and being able to migrate (offline) third-party LUNs with no license costs or appliances.

The RapidData migration solution simplifies large-scale data reorganization while transitioning from 7-Mode NFSv3 source to clustered Data ONTAP with granular cutover.
